2015 Meeting Schedule

Meetings of the Milwaukee Waukesha Beekeepers Association are normally held on the first Monday of each month at 6:30pm in the large meeting room of the Brookfield Library on Calhoun Road. Meetings include education, a business meeting and social time to get together with other beekeepers. The following is a list of meeting dates:

2015 Workshop Schedule

Event: Beginning Beekeeping Class
Date: Saturday, February 7th, 8am to 4pm or so; Additional class on February 14th
Location: Hemken Honey Company in Big Bend

This class will cover the basics of beekeeping and is intended for new beekeepers. We will explain what honeybee critters do, and how they do it. This is presented in an informal style, intended to fill up the newbie with honeybee information. This class is held in a working honey house, with plenty of opportunity to look, ask and discuss.  Cost is $55. Spouse or family member is an additional $25.  Includes the class, munchies, drinks, and a book to take home. Please contact Andy for a spot at This email address is being protected from spambots. Event: Beekeeping Equipment Workshop
Date: Saturday, March 8th, 8am to noon or so
Location: Hemken Honey Company in Big Bend

The workshop covers a review of various beehive equipment including hands on demonstrations. Depending on the group, there may be workshop space for you to work on your own equipment following the workshop. Cost is $25. Please contact Andy to sign up for a spot. Limited availability. Some bee equipment may be available.

Event: MWBA Field Day
Date: Saturday, May 16th, 8am to noon
Location: Hemken Honey Company in Big Bend home yard 

This field day is open to all members of the MWBA and will be a live demonstration with live beehives.  This is intended for new beekeepers.  Small groups will learn beehive basics, best practices, using tools, smokers, and other bee equipment.  New Beekeepers will learn how to open and work on hives.  No charge for the field day.

Package Bees

Package bees are available again this year through Andy at Hemken Honey Company. These will be two pound packages with a delivery date in April. Packages need to be ordered by March 1st or earlier, as there is a limited supply. Details will be forthcoming at the regular MWBA meetings. Order packages by calling Andy at 414.531.8220.
